Tiahleigh Palmer's foster father, who has been charged with the Queensland schoolgirl's murder, has woken from his induced coma.

A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed the 56-year-old was in a stable condition and had been transferred from Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital's ICU to a secure unit.

An internal police investigation has been launched after Thorburn reportedly overdosed on pills on Tuesday following his arrest.

Forensic officers are continuing to search the Logan property where Tiahleigh lived with Thorburn and his family.

Meanwhile, the Courier Mail has reported police now believe Tiahleigh was killed the night before Thorburn claimed to have dropped her off at school.

Authorities had been working on the theory that the 12-year-old disappeared after being dropped off at Marsden State High School by Thorburn, on October 30.

But the paper says it's now alleged she never made it to the school and she died the night before, after Thorburn allegedly learned his son Trent, 19, had been having sex with her.

Trent Thorburn has been charged with incest, perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice and was denied bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The Courier Mail has also reported Tiahleigh chose to stay with the Thorburns rather than return to her mother's care because she had developed a "crush" on Trent Thorburn.

"She said she wanted to stay because of the boy and because she loved the horses on the property that they have there," her grandmother Sue Palmer told the paper.

"We didn't have any idea what was actually happening there - just that she had a crush on the boy and that he was the main reason she wanted to stay."

Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard Trent admitted having sex with Tiahleigh in a Facebook Messenger conversation with a cousin before her killing.

He also said he was worried he might have made the schoolgirl pregnant, the court heard.

Foster mother Julene Thorburn, 54, and the couple's other son Josh, 20, are both on bail after being charged with perjury and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

They will face court on October 10.
