Another England Ashes hero will play in the Big Bash League, with paceman Tim Bresnan to join the Perth Scorchers ahead of the finals.

Bresnan replaces countryman David Willey, who will leave the franchise next week before their final three regular season matches for international duties.

The 31-year-old Bresnan joins former England teammate Ian Bell at the Scorchers, while fellow Ashes victors Kevin Pietersen (Melbourne Stars) and Stuart Broad (Hobart Hurricanes) also play in the Twenty20 competition.

Bresnan, a veteran of 23 Tests, last played in the BBL two years ago with the Hurricanes.

He was the third highest wicket-taker in last year's domestic T20 competition in England.

Left-arm paceman Willey has impressed in his second BBL season, taking six wickets in four matches at an economy rate slightly over five runs an over.

Bresnan is set to play a part in Perth's finals run after they returned to the top of the BBL on Sunday with a 50-run win over the Sydney Thunder.
