Mila Kunis is best known for her role playing Jackie Burkhart in the American sitcom That 70s Show, which aired from 1998 to 2006.

Kunis was born Milena Markovna Kunis into a Jewish family in the Ukraine before her family migrated to California, partly due to growing anti-Semitism.

With only $250 with which to build their lives, Kunis's family was forced to leave most of their wealth in the Ukraine before arriving on American soil.

The week they arrived, a seven-year-old Kunis and her brother were enrolled into primary school.

Kunis said her memories of attending a school without knowledge of the language or culture traumatised her.

"My first sentence of my essay to get into college was like, 'Imagine being blind and deaf at age seven'. And that's kind of what it felt like moving to the States," she said.

Kunis briefly attended university, but it was her time at a performing arts school when she was nine that established her passion for acting.

After a series of small TV roles and ad appearances, she landed the role that rocketed her career into stardom.

During her audition for That 70s Show, she said she would turn 18 but did not say when. She was 14 at the time, and the producers were not hiring anybody under 18.

Her risk paid off - she went on to win two awards for her role as Jackie.

Her connections in the movie business led her to land a role as the nemesis opposite Natalie Portman in Black Swan, for which she won her first Golden Globe.

Kunis married her former That 70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher in 2015 and together they have a daughter, Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher.

They are currently expecting their second child.

Kunis recently starred in Bad Moms, which is currently showing in Australian cinemas.
