Grammy-nominated singer Tori Kelly will come to Australia and New Zealand next month to promote the upcoming animated film Sing.

Kelly makes her movie debut as the voice of shy teenage elephant, Meena, who is one of a host of animals who enter an X-Factor-style talent show, helmed by a koala played by Matthew McConaughey in the animated movie.

Kelly joins a host of big names including Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly and Taron Egerton who all voice the would-be talent on the film created by Illumination, the studio behind Despicable Me.

It's a case of life imitating art for Kelly who was once a contestant on American Idol and has since signed with Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, to launch her own career culminating this year with a nomination for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards.

* Sing is released in Australian cinemas on December 26.
