Gable Tostee wasn't showing a lack of sorrow for the death of Warriena Wright, who fell to her death from his 14th floor Surfers Paradise balcony, his lawyer says.

"He has often expressed sympathy to me and a willingness to express his sympathy to the family members," Nick Dore told the Nine Network on Friday.

"But I will take full responsibility for Mr Tostee having not expressed any sympathy. It was purely at my advice."

Mr Tostee was on Thursday found not guilty of the murder of Ms Wright in 2015 after the pair met on the dating app Tinder.

The jury had deliberated for four days on the fate of Mr Tostee, who had pleaded not guilty.

Mr Dore said his client was "very, very relieved" and in shock after the verdict.

"It was a bit bitter sweet for Gable yesterday afternoon," he added.

"We didn't dissect much of it other than he was in a fair bit of shock."

Mr Tostee's first words after the verdict was read out, and before he headed home on the train, were "thank you".

"He's not a big talker."
