A French tourist has been charged over the car crash that killed Queensland model Elyse Miller-Kennedy.

It's alleged the French woman was driving on the wrong side of the road about 115km southwest of Cairns earlier this month when her car and one being driven by the 17-year-old collided.

Elyse, a Miss World Australia finalist, was critically injured in the smash and died in hospital a week later.

Her death sent the close-knit community of Dimbulah into mourning.

The 24-year-old Frenchwoman suffered serious leg and arm injuries in the crash and was taken to Cairns Hospital for several surgeries.

Her male passenger, 20, sustained minor injuries.

The woman will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on August 22.
