Commuters are facing delays of up to an hour after a freight train hit a stolen car abandoned on a level crossing in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The empty cattle train pushed the car about 100 metres along the tracks, leaving a trail of debris on the rail route at Landsborough about 5am (AEST) on Tuesday.

No one was hurt.

The incident has hit train services on the Sunshine Coast and north of Brisbane.

Services have been suspended between Nambour and Caboolture, with buses arranged instead.

Police are searching for whoever left the car on the crossing.
