Three men have been charged after allegedly robbing two people at gunpoint in Sydney's west before fleeing from police.

According to NSW police, the trio attempted to rob a man in Lidcombe about 6pm on Friday but the man ran away.

Minutes later the men tried again, driving up to two people in Lidcombe before one of the men threatened the pair with a pistol and stole items.

Police spotted the trio's Mitsubishi Lancer a short time later and pursued the car for a short distance.

The three men, aged 27, 23 and 20, stopped near Homebush West and fled on foot. Two were arrested shortly after leaving the car while police had to call in the dog squad, police helicopter and riot squad to catch the third man.

All three were refused bail and are due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
