Trump outcry long overdue: Christian lobby

The Australian Christian Lobby believes the outcry over Donald Trump's latest comments about women is long overdue.

But it also thinks former US president Bill Clinton has been given a leave pass for too long for his treatment of young females.

Responding to the release of tapes in which the Republican nominee was heard making lewd remarks, the ACL says sexist and misogynist attitudes towards women have been tolerated for too long.

"Sadly, what Donald Trump said is said routinely in football locker rooms and other contexts," ACL spokesperson for the dignity of women Wendy Francis said in Canberra on Monday.

"These ideas are fuelled by outdoor advertising objectifying women and enabled by our pornography industry.

"And Bill Clinton has been given a leave pass by the media and society for decades for his appalling treatment of young women."

Ms Francis says voters should look for candidates who don't buy into a culture of sexualisation of young women through advertising, music videos and other forms of entertainment.

"While ever we have a 'sex industry' with its own political wing, the Sex Party, how can we ever hope to change inappropriate attitudes by men and boys towards women?"
