Two die following northern NSW car crash

Two passengers critically injured in a car accident near the NSW-Queensland border earlier this week have died in hospital.

NSW Police say five people were in a travelling along Mount Lindesay Road, Woodenbong, north of Lismore, when their Nissan went off the road and crashed into an embankment on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old man behind the wheel and two of his passengers, a boy and girl aged 16 and 17, were taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

The driver was later transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital, where he was in a critical but stable condition on Saturday.

The remaining two passengers - a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man - were flown to the Gold Coast Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane in a critical condition.

Both died on Friday.

Specialist crash officers are still investigating the incident.
