Two busloads of children on a school holiday excursion are being taken to hospital following a collision in the NSW Blue Mountains.

A pair of buses, carrying 61 children and five adults, crashed on State Mine Gully Road near Lithgow just before 4pm, a NSW Ambulance spokesman says.

Paramedics assessed a number of people at the scene before taking two children and a woman to Lithgow Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the worst injuries appear to be related to bruising, with all of those involved escaping serious injury.

The remaining children, from a school in St Marys, will also be taken to hospital as a precaution, police say.
