A man has allegedly thrown an axe at his pregnant teenage wife in one of two horrific domestic violence attacks in the Northern Territory overnight.

Police say the Alice Springs man missed hitting his partner with the weapon before punching the 18-year-old several times in the head during a drunken fight.

The 23-year-old was arrested and is expected to be charged later this morning.

Meanwhile, another man is in custody after he allegedly kicked his pregnant wife in the stomach.

The 31-year-old and his partner were allegedly intoxicated when he hit her in the face and kicked her in the torso between 11pm on Saturday night and 6pm on Sunday night.

The 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital in a serious condition and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The man was charged with assault and violating a domestic violence order.
