Two men have been warned not to climb a treacherous southeast Queensland mountain again after being rescued for the second time in two months.

The friends, 54 and 63, were airlifted off Mount Barney, near the NSW border, on Thursday evening.

The pair, described by a LifeFlight spokesman as "inexperienced climbers", initially called police after becoming lost close to the peak of the perilous cliff.

But the RACQ LifeFlight helicopter was needed for the rescue due to an incoming storm and fading light.

The spokesman said it was the second time the men had been rescued from the mountain in two months.

Neither ... were injured during the rescue but it is understood police have "strongly advised" the pair not to attempt climbing Mount Barney again.
