A man has been charged and another is being sought after two separate incidents in which axes were used to threaten people in Queensland.

Police say that at about 5.10pm on Saturday a man went to a bar at Woree in Cairns' south after earlier arguing with staff and patrons and he threatened them with an axe.

Police were called and a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing an implement used in an offence, obstructing police and disorderly conduct in a licensed premises.

He will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.

Also on Saturday evening a takeaway store at Albion in Brisbane's northeast was robbed of cash after a man threatened a staff member with a short-handled axe.

The staff member was not hurt and police are seeking a slim Caucasian man in his late 20s with short orange-dyed hair.
