Union says detainees in WA not mistreated

The brutal treatment of youth detainees captured on video in a Northern Territory juvenile centre does not happen in Western Australia, the union representing prison guards says.

CPSU WA secretary Tony Walkington says recent measures have been put in place to reduce force within the Banksia Hill centre, including paring back strip searches and handcuffing of youth.

"Youth custodial officers assure us incidences and treatment of youth detainees, as seen on Four Corners, has never occurred in WA. "
