Two Melbourne women have escaped injury after a van smashed into their Thomastown home.

The white van ploughed into their living room about 1am on Wednesday after it was struck by a car on Mahoneys Road.

Resident Cassandra Couper had been smoking outside just moments before the crash, she told the Nine Network.

"I'd just come inside from having a cigarette, I was going to have a shower, then within about four minutes of coming inside, all of a sudden I hear these tyres screeching ... and it sounded like the front window had broken," Ms Couper said.

"I came rushing out and there was a car at the front door."

Victoria Police said the house was significantly damaged, "however no one inside was injured".

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said two people in the vehicles involved were hurt.

A woman in her 70s suffered chest and abdominal injuries and is in a stable condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

She was accompanied by a man who didn't require treatment.

A man in his 20s suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Northern Hospital in a stable condition.
