The Victorian government has purchased a Mount Macedon-based emergency services training campus which the federal government closed in 2014 to save money.

The Australian Emergency Management Institute at 601 Mount Macedon Road was shut down after the 2014 federal budget axed its funding in favour of a virtual institute based in Canberra.

Victoria's emergency services minister James Merlino on Saturday said the Victorian Emergency Management Institute will be established at the site.
