A Victorian man who let two dogs suffer painful deaths by dehydration during a heatwave has been fined and banned from having a dog for a year.

The Anatolian Shepherd dogs were left in the sun without water and would have suffered severely as they died in a heatwave in 2014, RSPCA prosecutor Daniel Bode said in a statement.

Senior Inspector Bode said the man was found guilty on Monday in the Frankston Magistrates' Court of five counts of animal cruelty, fined $1000 , disqualified from dog ownership for 12 months, and ordered to pay costs of $53,000.
