The first woman to be deputy leader of the Liberal Party in Victoria has announced she'll retire at the next state election.

Brighton MP Louise Asher's 26-year career as a member of parliament - which she described as an "absolute honour" on Thursday - will end in November 2018.

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy paid tribute to Ms Asher as one of the Liberal Party's "most inspirational" MPs.
