Vics ponder spin options for Sydney

Victoria are heavily considering the addition of legspinner Fawad Ahmed to their Sheffield Shield side for this week's clash with New South Wales at the SCG.

The Victorians have dusted up their net wickets at the MCG to help prepare for the match on the spin-friendly pitch, which begins on Thursday.

Captain Matthew Wade said the Bushrangers would inspect the storied Sydney ground's pitch before making a decision.

"If the wicket takes spin it's going to be the spin match-ups that dictate a lot of the game," Wade said.

Spinner Jon Holland has starred with the ball so far this Shield season, taking 11 wickets in two matches, while Dubbo-born paceman Chris Tremain isn't far behind with nine dismissals.

Wade said the traditional rivalry would be the biggest test of the unbeaten Bushrangers' season.

"The way the pitch is playing and their line-up ... when you go and play New South Wales, it's always a big challenge," he said.

"But we've got good players who love that kind of a challenge."
