Adam Voges' hopes of pushing his case for aN Australian recall were dealt a blow on Wednesday when he failed to pass a concussion test.

Voges was ruled out of Western Australia's Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland in Townsville after failing the Cogstate concussion test.

The 37-year-old hasn't been able to play or train since being felled by a Cameron Stevenson bouncer while playing a Shield game for WA last Thursday against Tasmania.

Although Voges has been recovering well, he is yet to regain full cognitive function.

Voges' place in the Test side had been on shaky ground even before the concussion, and he faces an uphill battle to win back his spot for the three-Test series against Pakistan, starting on December 15 at the Gabba.

His last chance to impress selectors will come in WA's day-night Shield match against Queensland, starting on December 5 at the WACA.

WA coach and former Test great Justin Langer has urged national selectors to stick with Voges, saying the 37-year-old could help the squad during their transition towards a more-youthful team.

In better news for WA, allrounder Mitch Marsh (shoulder) and spinner Ashton Agar (calf) were included in the 13-man squad who flew on Wednesday to Townsville.

After two injections in his shoulder last week, it remains unclear whether Marsh will be able to bat in the match.

Agar will face a late fitness test to determine if he has recovered from a calf strain suffered at training.

WA sit last on the Shield table after opening their season with three straight losses.

Queensland are in fourth spot with one win and two losses.

WA squad: Michael Klinger (capt), Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Simon Mackin, Mitchell Marsh, David Moody, Josh Nicholas, D'Arcy Short, Ashton Turner, Jonathan Wells, Sam Whiteman
