A thief's getaway plan has been foiled by a police dog who sniffed him out hiding in bushland in Western Australia's Mid West region.

A woman returned to her Geraldton home just after midnight on Tuesday when she noticed a man running away from her house.

She called police, and dog Bucky identified a scent, tracking it from the suburban street to Brand Highway.

He followed the scent into bushland where the man was found and arrested.

Police allege the 33-year-old man was involved in several other burglaries in the Geraldton area between November and January.

He has been charged with several offences, including four counts of stealing and three counts of home burglary.
