A 61-year-old Perth schoolteacher has been charged with child sex offences after police allegedly found photos on a computer seized from his home.

Detectives from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team raided the Scarborough man's house in December and seized a computer and other electronic storage devices.

Police on Thursday said they found child exploitation photos on the man's computer.

Some of the images were allegedly taken while the man was working as a physical education teacher at a metropolitan high school.

Police say the charges do not relate to children who attended the school where the man worked.

However, investigations are continuing.

Detectives say they will make contact with victims as they are identified.

Police began investigating the teacher following allegations that inappropriate photographs of girls were being taken.

The man will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on January 12.
