Queensland seemed to slip back into summer on Saturday with parts of the southeast recording the warmest July day on record.

The Sunshine Coast Airport, Tewantin, Coolangatta, Nambour, Gympie, Maryborough and Archerfield all topped their previously held records, while Brisbane matched the 29.1C maximum reached on the same day 70 years ago.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Adam Blazak said the fluctuation between hot and cold temperatures was normal for Queensland in winter but the state should experience conditions more typical of the season from now on.
