Scans have revealed West Indies star Deandra Dottin suffered a fractured cheekbone in her nasty on-field collision with Brisbane Heat teammate in the Women's Big Bash League.

Dottin will consult a specialist this week to determine a comeback date but is considered only an outside chance of playing again this season even if the Heat make the semi-finals starting on January 24.

Dottin was taken to hospital after a head clash in the outfield with teammate Laura Harris trying to stop a boundary in the Heat's five-run WBBL win over Melbourne Stars in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Dottin was released from hospital later the same day.

"All is going to be fine," Dottin posted on social media.

"I must thank dearly the Brisbane Heat coaching, support and medical staff who have been very professional, helpful and caring to me.P

"These guys are like my family."

The prognosis was much brighter for Harris.

A Heat spokesman said Harris had "recovered well" on Wednesday.

Harris received medical treatment at the Brisbane venue on Tuesday but took no further part in the game.

She was making her return from a broken finger against the Stars.

The fifth placed Heat next take on No.3 ranked Sydney Thunder in the WBBL on Monday and Tuesday at Blacktown in Sydney.
