A machete, knife, ammunition and cannabis have been found in the car of an Adelaide man who was pulled over for using fake number plates.

Police say they noticed the unassigned plates in Paralowie early on Thursday and searched the driver and his car, finding the weapons.

The 48-year-old Davoren Park driver has been charged with carrying offensive weapons and insecure ammunition and fined over the false plates, driving unregistered and uninsured and possessing cannabis.
