Westpac COO to retire

Westpac chief operating officer John Arthur will retire after eight years at the bank.

Mr Arthur, who was appointed chief operating officer in December 2011, had helped reshaped the bank's customer operations to deliver a better customer experience, Westpac chief executive Brian Hartzer said.

Following the retirement, Mr Arthur's portfolio will be allocated among other senior executives.

Westpac has promoted chief compliance officer Rebecca Lim to the group executive team, Gary Thursby will take over the expanded group executive, strategy, transformation and business services, while head of its consumer bank George Frazis will take on the group's contact centre responsibilities.
