A hoodie-clad man who claimed to be a good Samaritan by helping a wheelchair-bound man at a train station in Sydney's west and then robbing him, is wanted by police.

Officers say on the night of September 7 the 37-year-old victim was assisted up a ramp at Guildford Railway Station by a man aged in his 20s or 30s, dressed in a dark hoodie, and a red and black basketball cap with 'Chicago 23' motif.

The man then asked the victim if he could use his mobile phone which he allegedly ran away with.

Police on Thursday released footage of a man, who frequents the Guildford area, that they would like to speak to.
