The Perth Lynx are firing on all cylinders as they look to go one better than their runner-up finish in the last WNBL season.

The Lynx (6-2) climbed to outright first on the ladder after claiming a commanding 75-63 road victory over the winless Adelaide Lightning on Saturday.

Shooting guard Sami Whitcomb continued her outstanding form, finishing with 23 points despite struggling from beyond the arc.

Whitcomb, averaging 22.7 points per game, leads the WNBL in scoring after six rounds and was named player of the month for October.

The former US college basketballer, playing her second season in the WNBL, is shaping as an early contender for the MVP award but says she's being driven by team success.

"Each week we just try to make it about what we need to do to get better," she said.

"We know that we have to rebound the ball, we know we have to push the ball. I'm happy with where we're at as a team."

Perth will look to cement their spot at the top of the ladder when they host second-placed Bendigo Spirit (5-3) on Friday.

Bendigo were edged out 71-69 by defending champions Townsville Fire on Saturday night, with reigning MVP Suzy Batkovic (18 points, eight rebounds) leading the way.

Elsewhere, third-placed Dandenong thrashed the University of Canberra Capitals 82-63 and the Sydney Uni Flames beat Melbourne Boomers 87-75.
