The American actor Will Ferrell has signed on to star as a professional eSports player in an upcoming comedy, reports Deadline.

Ferrell, known most for his role in the "Anchorman" movies and sketches on "Saturday Night Live", will be starring in the as-yet-untitled comedy, written by Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn, and produced by Legendary Pictures.

According to reports, Ferrell will star as a member of a professional eSports team, unusual because high-level players usually retire around 20 due to reduced hand-eye coordination. The two largest eSports teams worldwide, Evil Geniuses and Fnatic, are said to be in talks to be part of the movie.

Ferrell is currently filming the Sony comedy "Holmes and Watson", set for release in 2018.
