A woman has died in hospital 10 days after a four-wheel drive being driven by her husband plunged into a dam on the couple's Victorian property.

The 36-year-old woman died on Tuesday more than a week after the 4WD veered off a dirt driveway in Healesville on Saturday November 26.

The married couple were reportedly on the way to hospital to see their ill newborn baby at the time.

The husband, 32, escaped from the car unharmed and pulled his wife, named by media as Kerry Arrow, from the car.

Paramedics treated the woman before she was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

Police arrested the husband at the scene but he was subsequently released without charge.

"Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision," a Victoria Police spokesman said late on Tuesday night.

Friend Dianne Axisa-Wynyard posted on Facebook that she was honoured to have known Kerry.

"I cannot put into words how I feel but I will never forget you and I'm so grateful I got to tell that I valued you and loved," she wrote.

"Fly high now Kerry and watch over your baby boy. I miss you already."
