A woman has been airlifted to a Sydney hospital in a serious condition after falling 100 metres from a lookout south of Bathurst in NSW.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, fell down Grove Creek Falls lookout at Abercrombie about 11.50am on Thursday.

She was winched to safety about 3pm suffering a head injury and suspected fractures including a broken ankle.

An ambulance helicopter has taken her to Liverpool Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

Police say they are still trying to determine how she fell down the lookout, which oversees a 70-metre waterfall.
