It took emergency workers 30 minutes to free a blind woman who caught her leg between a Melbourne train and platform.

The woman's leg was caught at Syndal station and the decision was made not to move her from the train doorway until medical help arrived.

"This would have been an awful experience and our concern is for the customer who was injured at Syndal Station this morning," Metro spokesman Marcus Williams said on Monday.

"Our driver attended to her immediately and our initial focus was on her wellbeing and arranging medical assistance."

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was taken to Knox hospital in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.

"Fortunately incidents like these are rare and we always fully investigate them to determine the circumstances and how we can prevent them in the future," Mr Williams said.
