A four-year-old boy who fell five metres down an escalator and onto another moving below at a Gold Coast shopping centre was lucky to avoid serious injury, paramedics say.

The boy escaped with only minor injuries to his forehead and torso when he fell at the Robina Town Centre shortly before 2.40pm on Tuesday.

Queensland Ambulance Service critical care paramedic Jaye Newton said it appeared the boy fell five metres from one escalator and landed head first on another moving below.

"This little boy is so lucky," Mr Newton said.

"He has fallen from a significant height, but it just appears the way he's landed he's been able to prevent any serious injuries."

The boy was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
