A young woman has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a police car on its way to a job in Sydney's southwest.

The 19-year-old was crossing Marion Street in Bankstown at 6.30am on Thursday when she was struck by a police car travelling with its lights and sirens on.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics for non-life threatening injuries before being taken to Liverpool Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

The two police officers in the car weren't injured, a NSW police spokeswoman said.

Crash unit officers are investigating the cause of the crash.
