Senator Vicente Sotto III on Saturday was confident that newly-appointed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag would know how to deal with drug lords inside the New Bilibid Prison who allegedly used other convicts as "assassins."

Pati 'yung mga drug lord, ipakilala natin lahat," Sotto said.

The Senate leader bared on Friday that some drug lords continued to use "assassins" in the national penitentiary.

“They are allowing criminal activities outside tapos balik sa loob. Murder.

President Rodrigo Duterte replaced ex-BuCor chief Nicanor Faeldon as the bureau was embroiled in numerous controversies surrounding Bilibid inmates and corruption schemes involving officers.

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Bantag, a former jail warden who was charged with murder over the death of 10 inmates following an explosion at the Parañaque City Jail in 2016.

When asked during a radio interview on the "challenges" Bantag faces at the BuCor, Sotto said he did not personally know Bantag but he was familiar with the BuCor's chief's reputation.

— Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
