Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Monday ordered the relief from post of Iloilo provincial police director Senior Supt. Harold Tuzon and the entire Maasin police station following Sunday morning's attack by communist New People's Army rebels.

Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, Region 6 police director, said he recommended the relief of the police officers and it was approved by Dela Rosa.

Tapped to take Tuzon's post was Senior Supt. Christopher Tambungan, who was the deputy regional director for operation (DRDO).

Binag said he assigned personnel from the Iloilo Provincial Police Safety Company to take over the Maasin municipal police station.

At least 50 suspected NPA members raided a police station at around 10:45 a.m., June 18.

No policemen were hurt during the raid, but the rebels were able to cart away several firearms from the police station, including eight M16 rifles, four Glock 9mm pistols, five handheld radios, a base radio, and two laptops.

The rebels also took away P25,000 from the police station and a patrol car.

Binag said the chief of police of Passi City, Supt Ruby Gumban, was also relieved from post due to repeated offense during inspection by DRDO and despite warnings to stay in full alert status.
