An Indonesian kidnap victim has been rescued by a contingent of the Philippine Marines in coordination with the Sulu Provincial Police on Thursday morning, the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines said.

The troops of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 3, Philippine Marine Ready Force Sulu under the Joint Task Force Sulu in coordination with the Sulu Provincial Police Office and intel units rescued kidnap victim Usman Yusuf who earlier escaped from his abductors around 7:30 am of Thursday.

The 35-year-old Yusuf was abducted at the seawaters off Sempornah, Sabah, Malaysia aboard Malaysian fishing/trawler vessel last September 11.

“I commend the troops of the Joint Task Force Sulu for their unfaltering conduct of intensified military operations which bear outstanding accomplishments,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

Upon his rescue, Yusuf was brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital for medical check-up.

Yusuf was then presented to the commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu prior to his turn over to higher headquarters.

With the rescue of Yusuf, the number of kidnap victims are down to six. Three of them are foreigners while the other three were Filipinos. — Llanesca T. Panti/MDM, GMA News
