Ian Fernandez, one of the survivors of the LeoMaric minibus tragedy, said on Thursday that the mini bus was indeed overloaded.

"Punong-puno po 'yung bus. Marami pong nakatayo sa kuwan po... sa may gitna," Fernandez said in a report by GMA News' Vonne Aquino on "24 Oras."

"Kinakadyot-kadyot niya po pero di na umaandar po. Tapos nung may nagsasabi na po na ibangga niya sa bundok, mabagal pa lang po 'yung takbo namin hindi po siya nakikinig po," he added.

The Fernandez family was thankful that they survived the accident, in which a LeoMaric mini bus that was bound for Candon, Ilocos Sur fell into a ravine in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija on Tuesday.

Nueva Ecija police reported that 34 people died while 43 were injured in the accident.

"Naiiyak po 'ko pag naiisip ko, hindi ko po alam pano kami nabuhay ng anak ko," Remedios Fernandez said.

At present, 28 victims are confined at the Veterans Regional Hospital (VRH) in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

According to the report, the victims have not received any aid yet from the management of LeoMaric minibus, however, the VRH vowed that the patients will not be charged.

"Dito sa hospital, hospital care lang maibigay namin... Pero 'yung pag-uwi ng bata, yung gatas... yung edukasyon... siguro may magsponsor," said Dr. Cirilo Galindez, VRH Medical Center Chief as some survivors were children who lost their mothers. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BAP, GMA News
