Over 6,000 violators arrested during poll gun ban period —PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said a total of 6,362 gun ban violators have been arrested nationwide during the election gun ban period that ended on June 12.

At a press briefing, PNP spokesman Police Colonel Bernard Banac said the number of arrested individuals can be broken down into the following:

  • 5,989 civilians,
  • 48 policemen,
  • 25 soldiers,
  • 94 government or elected officials,
  • 19 from other law enforcement agencies,
  • 4 Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel,
  • 104 security guards,
  • 24 members of the Civilian Active Auxiliary,
  • 15 foreign nationals,
  • 31 from threat groups, and
  • 9 from private armed groups

They were nabbed from a total of 838,133 focused police operations from January 13 to June 12, Banac said.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,304 firearms were confiscated while 50,386 deadly weapons were seized by the authorities during the gun ban period.

Banac reiterated that the PNP has already returned to normal alert status except in Mindanao due to the implementation of region-wide martial law.

"Bumalik na po ang PNP sa normal alert status, sa lahat ng police regional offices natin maliban po sa areas covered by police regional offices IX, X, XI, XII, XIII and the BARMM regions," he said. —KBK, GMA News
