Quiel to bring rains to Western Visayas, Palawan and Mindoro

Western Visayas, Palawan and Mindoro provinces on Friday will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms brought about by Severe Tropical Storm Quiel, PAGASA reported in its early morning weather forecast.

The residents in these areas, the agency warned, should be vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

As of 3 a.m., the center of Severe Tropical Storm Quiel was estimated at 380 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 km/h.

Quiel is moving in the west southwest direction slowly.

Meanwhile, the Tail-end of a Cold Front will be affecting Northern Luzon.

Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and Cagayan will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms  due to the Tail end of a Cold Front.

The rest of northern Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms also due to the Tail end of a Cold Front.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that isolated flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Another weather system the bureau is monitoring, Typhoon Halong, was located to be 3,140 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph moving in the northeast direction at 15 kph.

The forecast wind speed in northern Luzon is strong moving northeastward while coastal waters will be rough.

For the western sections of central and southern Luzon, wind speed forecast is strong moving in the southwest to southeast direction while coastal waters will be rough.

In the Visayas and the rest of Luzon, wind speed forecast is moderate to strong moving southwestward while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The forecast wind speed in Mindanao is light to moderate moving in the southwest to west direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate. — BAP, GMA News
