The DLSU Green Archers are still on track in the Final Four race after defeating the NU Bulldogs, 84-77, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With less than three minutes left in the game, a foul called on DLSU's Aljun Melecio on Enzo Joson gave NU a chance to trim their deficit, 75-77. However, a Joaqui Manuel dagger three gave DLSU enough breathing space with 1:14 remaining, 82-75. NU's Shaun Ildefonso closed the game, 84-77, after Taft tower Justine Baltazar sealed the deal for DLSU with less than a minute left.

The Taft-based squad dominated NU in the third period, 27 against the Bulldogs' 22 points, to end with a slim 65-62 lead.

The NU Bulldogs had the lead at the half, 40-38, after making a 27-point performance against DLSU's 21. John Lloyd Clemente registered 17 points at the half, thanks to 5/6 three-point shooting. The Green Archers had the lead at the end of the first period, 17-13.

"Going to this game, alam namin gaano kaimportante itong panalo namin tonight kasi I told them na if we get this, we will be on a better spot. If we fail this one, we will be put on a difficult spot," DLSU head coach Louie Gonzalez said.

An emotional Santi Santillan led the Archers for the win with 18 points and five rebounds.

Santillan, a Cebuano, said he is dedicating this season to his family. "Noong nakaraang practice, tinanong kami ni Coach kung kanino ide-dedicate 'tong season na 'to. After practice, umuwi ako, talagang umiyak ako kasi dine-dedicate ko 'to sa family ko kasi sobrang miss ko na sila. Hindi kami naglaro kasi kailangan manalo. Gusto naming manalo," he said.

Dave Ildefonso dropped 20 points for the Bulldogs, while back court partner John Lloyd Clemente chipped in 19.

With the win, DLSU still remains in third with eight wins and four losses while NU is out of contention for the Final Four with three wins and nine losses.

Both teams will be back on Sunday. NU will face the FEU Tamaraws, while La Salle will try to exact revenge against rivals Ateneo.
