WBA Welterweight champion Keith Thurman said he believes he will make history as the boxer who will make boxing champion Senator Manny Pacquiao retire from the sport.

In a report on 24 Oras Weekend, Chino Trinidad said Thurman confidently declared all his qualifications to support his statement, saying he can and will bring Pacquiao down.

"I am the youngest undefeated champion he will ever face. I grew up in boxing that started when I was 7 years old. I had an extensive amateur career. Almost an Olympian in 2008," Thurman said.

Thurman said his Olympic background is what sets him apart as a fighter.

"Manny Pacquiao may have tremendous experience but not experienced against the type of fighter that I am. With the Olympic background, with the understanding of boxing, speed and power. Your senator is going down."

Pacquiao however said he's already heard Thurman's claims too many times from most of his his opponents, and it never really happened.

"Marami na nagsabi na ire-retire nila ako pero nagbabago lahat pagdating sa ibabaw ng ring," Pacquiao said.

The 8-weight division world champion believes that his fight against Thurman will be competitive.

"This fight is once in a lifetime. This is gonna be the best fight of the year action in the ring. You heard my opponent say he wants to fight toe to toe with me so let's get it on July 20!" Pacquiao said in a press conference.

With an undefeated opponent like Thurman, Pacquiao said he is only becoming more motivated to train harder.

Pacquiao has started his training in Las Vegas; on the first day of his practice he did shadow boxing, skipping ropes, speed ball training, and mitts training with his trainer Nonoy Neri.
