Roger Federer will play his compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the Indian Wells final after both Swiss players came through semi-finals on Saturday.

Federer defeated Jack Sock 6-1 7-6 after Wawrinka registered a 6-3 6-2 victory over Pablo Carreno Busta.

The early exits of Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic had paved the way for Switzerland's two top players and they both produced classy displays on Saturday in California.

Federer, seeded ninth but still riding the crest of a wave after becoming Australian Open champion, swiftly gained control over Sock and romped to a quick opening set.

The American's hard-hitting style allowed him to gain a foothold in the second set and he went 5-4 up, but a typically deft drop shot enabled Federer to level.

A tie-break was needed but Federer persevered, a backhand forcing Sock into an error to seal an opportunity to win a fifth championship at the tournament.

Earlier, third seed Wawrinka advanced into his first Indian Wells final after needing just 65 minutes to dispose of Spain's Carreno Busta.

Wawrinka converted his first break point opportunity in the opener, and dropped just 10 points on serve throughout.

"I mixed a lot of speed and spin. It's not always easy here. I was mixing it up, so it was not easy for him to find a solution," said Wawrinka.
