The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored in the Pacific Ocean may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday and may hit Eastern Mindanao, GMA resident meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz said Wednesday.

According to Cruz, the LPA was spotted at 2,415 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 4 a.m., adding that it still has no direct impact to the country.

"Wala pong epekto pa 'yan sa ating bansa dahil 'yung hanging amihan ramdam na ramdam sa malaking bahagi ng bansa lalong lalo na sa Northern Luzon and even here sa Metro Manila," Cruz said in a Facebook Live update.

"By Friday... Friday night nasa loob na 'yan ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility as a significant tropical cyclone. Kitang-kita niyo po ang pag-ikot ng hangin, pag ganyan bagyo na po 'yan, he said.

Cruz said it may hit Eastern Mindanao especially areas such as Davao and the CARAGA region.

It is expected to make landfall by Sunday.

Meanwhile, weather bureau PAGASA earlier said the northeast monsoon would be responsible for the partly cloudy to cloudy conditions and isolated light rain over the Visayas and the rest of Luzon.

Mindanao, meanwhile, would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
