The low-pressure area (LPA) monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday may develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, state weather forecasters said Friday.

The tropical depression will be named "Amang" once it enters PAR on Saturday, according to PAGASA in a press briefing. It will be the first cyclone to hit the country in 2019.

Residents of CARAGA Region and Eastern Visayas were advised to prepare for the upcoming cyclone.

Malano said the LPA has the same "signature" as before Tropical Depression Usman was formed in December. Usman left over 100 people dead, most of them due to landslides.

As of Friday morning, the LPA was located at 1,390 kms east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur. —KBK, GMA News
