The low pressure area monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) could intensify into a tropical depression over the weekend and make landfall over the Caraga region by Sunday.

According to weather bureau PAGASA, the LPA is expected to cross the border by early Saturday morning.

It was 1,315 kilometers east of Mindanao as of Friday evening.

According to a weather report on "24 Oras" by GMA News resident meteorologist Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz, the LPA could turn into a tropical depression on Sunday as it heads toward Caraga.

After making landfall, the storm may continue to affect Mindanao and Central Visayas region until Monday.

The weather system was already bringing rains to some parts of the country, particularly over Eastern Visayas.—LDF, GMA News
