The weather system formerly known as Tropical Depression Luis had moved further away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility but would nevertheless continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, weather service PAGASA reported in a Saturday morning forecast.

At 3 a.m., the tropical depression was 595 kilometers north-northwest of extreme northern Luzon and was making its way north-northeast at 8 kilometers per hour.

The tropical depression had 45 kph sustained winds, which could gust up to 70 kph.

The southwest monsoon, enhanced by this tropical depression, would bring scattered moderate to heavy rain over the Ilocos and Cordillera Administrative Regions, the Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan.

Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon and the Cagayan Valley Region, the Calabarzon Region, and the Mindoro Provinces could also expect cloudy conditions and scattered rain and thunderstorms also due to the southwest monsoon.

The rest of  the country would meanwhile experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions accompanied with isolated rainshowers.

Winds would be strong to gale force from the southwest over northern and Central Luzon, where coastal waters would be rough to very rough.

Over the rest of Luzon, winds would be moderate to strong from the southwest with moderate to rough conditions over the surrounding seas.

Winds over the Visayas and Mindanao light to moderate from the southwest with slight to moderate coastal waters.

PAGASA also reported that a there was a low-pressure area 910 kms northeast of Basco, Batanes, and this LPA was likely to intensify into a tropical depression in the next day or two. — DVM, GMA News
