Weather service PAGASA reported in a Monday morning forecast that low-pressure area 200 kilometers north of the Batanes' Basco town would bring cloudy conditions accompanied with scattered rain and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, the Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Apayao, and Abra.

The LPA could intensify into a tropical depression in the next 36 hours, after which it would be named Tropical Depression Neneng.

The rest of the country could meanwhile expect generally fair weather with isolated thunderstorms.

Typhoon Mangkhut

PAGASA also reported that a typhoon with the international name Mangkhut was 2,745 kilometers east of southern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, early Monday morning.

Mangkhut had 130 kilometer per hour winds, which could gust up to 160 kph, and was moving west-southwest 35 kph.

Given Mangkhut's course, the typhoon was projected to enter the PAR by Wednesday, and be in the vicinity of the Cagayan-Batanes area by Saturday.

Furthermore, PAGASA warned that Mangkhut could intensify into a super-typhoon, with winds in excess of 205 kph, before exiting the PAR sometime between Saturday and Sunday. — DVM, GMA News
