Tropical Depression Luis has slowed down after making landfall over southern Taiwan, PAGASA reported in its Severe Weather Bulletin issued late Thursday afternoon.

The tropical depression is not expected to directly affect any part of the country.

However, the weather system may enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat which will bring scattered moderate to heavy rains in Ilocos region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, and Babuyan islands on Friday.

The center of Luis, as of 10 p.m., was estimated 385 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph and moving westward at 10kph.

The state weather bureau warned the residents in the affected areas especially those living near river channels, low lying areas, and mountainous areas to take appropriate action against possible flooding and landslides.

Sea travel is risky in the seaboards of northern and central Luzon.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring a Low Pressure Area that was estimated at 1,000 kilometers east of Appari, Cagayan at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The said LPA may develop into a tropical depression within 24 to 48 hours. — BAP, GMA News
